Concerns Over Regional Stability

General Anil Chauhan, the Chief of Defence Staff, highlighted the potential serious implications for India's stability and security due to the mutual interests of China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. He shared these insights during a recent address at a think tank.

In his speech, General Chauhan referenced the military conflict between India and Pakistan that occurred from May 7 to 10, noting that it marked a significant moment as it was possibly the first direct engagement between two nuclear-armed nations.

The Chief of Defence Staff pointed out that Pakistan has acquired approximately 70 to 80 percent of its military equipment from China over the past five years, indicating a deepening military relationship.

He also mentioned that Chinese military companies have commercial obligations in Pakistan. The senior military official expressed concern that the economic crises faced by countries in the Indian Ocean region have allowed 'external powers' to expand their influence, potentially creating vulnerabilities for India.

During the event organized by the Observer Research Foundation, General Chauhan stated, 'There is a potential alignment of interests among China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, which could impact India's stability and security.'
